LDE Press : Lauren Daversa Events Loire Valley Shoot

What happens when a planner dreams? Well, they make their dreams come true!  In this case, one of my dreams took me all the way across the Atlantic to a magical country: France.

Lauren Daversa Makes Magic Happen!!

Honestly, who has not dreamed of planning a destination wedding; I know I have! And while it may appear on the surface the tasks involved with planning a wedding abroad could be a huge undertaking, I hope this shoot showcases a wedding abroad being difficult to plan is merely a myth and could not be any further from the truth!

Okay, it truly helps if you've hired the right team of professionals to provide you with the support
you will need, and deserve!  However, in order to rest assured your wedding will be the most incredible experience of your life, and whether a wedding is in your hometown, or a country you have only dreamed of visiting, you will always need the right team behind you!

And just to illustrate how easy it is to fly away for the destination wedding of your dreams, I collaborated with local vendors to bring to document a destination photoshoot.  In this instance, I dreamed of a Parisian shoot, and then turn it into a reality.  All so couples are able to see having a wedding abroad is a viable option for your special day.

Okay, it takes planning.  And sure, I am a planner.  But I have never been to France (born and raised New Yorker).  I've never driven a manual car. I don't speak French. Yet, I was able to create this over the top, dream of a wedding shoot, shot onsite a gorgeous castle, in the middle of the Loire Valley!

Living Life Like A Fairytale ?

Here is a little secret: as is with every event, there are always teeny-tiny snafus.  And on the day of the shoot, there was quite a snafu.  Hours before everything was scheduled to start, the model was a no show.

OH MA GAWD!!!

The middle of the Loire Valley is not exactly epicenter of a plethora of models waiting to work.

In my line of work, the only time to worry is when a problem arises, and you have hired crappy vendors. Yup, in this case, you're probably SH!T out of luck.  It is one reason why you always hire the best vendors you can. For me, after twenty-three years in the industry, there is absolutely no situation, or problem I cannot find a way to resolve.  And when the news of a no-show model broke, my planner, director, producer, visionary hats came off, and I went into fix it mode. And in this case, fix it meant I was forced into the role of pretending to be a model for the day.

Anyone who knows me personally, will vouch it is a rare day when you will find me in front of the camera - my modeling days ended in the nineties.  And while I was never, ever, EVER supposed to be in front of the camera at my own shoot, this was the only solution. Thanks no show model.

On the flip side, how wonderful this snafu serves as the perfect example to illustrate something I share with my clients time and time and time and time and time and time again: there is never a problem in the world of wedding planning; there are only situations which need to be tweaked!

And on this day, it came full circle to where I was taking my own advice.  Despite not wanting to, I dug deep, took my own advice, turned to motivation from Richard Dreyfuss and let it ride.  There was no way this amazing photoshoot, in the middle of the Loire valley, with time working against us, was going to go down the toilet!

Twirling in a Princess Dress in front of a Castle

with a Rainbow Beaming In The Sky was Magical!!

Looks easy, twirling around in front of a gorgeous castle - doesn't it!

Getting Stuffed Into The Dress

Well, before the twirls, there was hours of hair and makeup; it took two people to stuff me into a tight, super heavy wedding gown; and my feet were shoved into high heels two sizes too small. Then came the hours of grinning like I meant it, from sunrise to sunset.  We managed to pull off morphing from two strangers into lovey-dovey newlyweds.  Okay, there may have been a never ending supply of champagne popped throughout the day to keep me going! COME ON, we were in France! But for a woman, to rock a gorgeous, yet very, very, very heavy and very, very tight wedding gown; run around in teeny tiny high heels; and balance ten pounds of hair piled high on top of my head; and, end the day smiling - I'd categorize this as a miracle!

Running In Heels!

But look at the result!

Look at this portraits!

In one day, after months of creating and planning, the vision, my dream, bringing to life a modern, romantic Parisian elopement, where the style of Marie Antoinette was infused with the sass of my hometown of NYC, was completely brought to life.

Just Keep Smiling, Just Keep Smiling!!!

A Modern Day Cinderella Moment

We hit the nail on the head with this shoot, and the vision became an even more beautiful reality. The result was better than what I had dreamed up in my own mind, and truly portrayed one possible way for YOU to have your own fairytale wedding!

A Castle Fit For A Princess and Her Prince

Beautiful Decor Courtesy of the Castle!

It took an army to create the entire shoot a success!  Beauty was provided by Samantha Joline Vandermeyde, and hair by Maude Poilievreu worked for hours to transform me into a decent looking bride; and Jean-Marie Voignier designed the most incredible tablescape, decor, bouquets and boutonnieres!  Event Planning and stationery by Lauren Daversa Events. And you know what, IT WAS WORTH EVERY SECOND AND ALL THE WORK!

24 Hours of Shooting Deserves A Lot of Champs

All together, the shoot lasted almost 24 hour between beauty and wardrobe, location changes and champagne breaks. We shot around the castle's extensive grounds; throughout the surrounding town; even in the local sun flower fields at sunset.

What a gift it is to be able to make a dream become   reality, which I am proudly sharing with you. Any couple would be blessed to call this shoot their wedding.  This may be the most beautiful wedding I will ever have! And these are only a few of the stunning portraits be captured!  Seriously, only a few of them!

So, if you are recently engaged, and considering a romantic and unique destination wedding, remember it is a possibility.  Destination weddings allow you to immerse yourself in the splendors of a new culture; a culture only able to be found in a foreign location, far, far, far away! You will have the chance to escape into a fantasy-esque world with your closest friends and family by your side and all to share in one of the most significant moments in your life!

Be sure to say hello to Lauren Daversa Events, and let us make your wedding dreams come true! Whether you want to go to Palm Beach, New York, Montauk, Firenze, Hawaii, Paris, or somewhere else in the world, we are ready to to give you the experience of lifetime, which you will never forget!

What are you waiting for!!

Sunset Kisses in a Field of Sunflowers!

Love Was Literally in the Air!

Event Inspiration : Hanging Flowers

No one is breaking the mold by suspending flowers, however, it never ceases to bring in the wow factor to an event. During a phone consult with one of my May brides, we were both searching through the pages of Bridal Snob (a little obsession of mine) when I came across these amazing images of suspended white ranunculus, courtesy of Food + Flower + Style. LOVELY! Are you suspending anything for your wedding?

Event Inspiration: Rotundas

London bound? Or, just in need of some inspiration? Well, Ian Johnson, Tiger Lily Weddings and One Great George Street to the rescue!

One Great George Street is an award-winning central London conference and wedding venue, offering first class facilities and standards of service. The magnificent four-domed Edwardian building is perfect for conferences, meetings, gala dinners, drinks receptions and wedding ceremonies and receptions, which can be seen in Ian Johnson's images. He captures Tiger Lily Weddings clever use of the rotunda as a means to hang place cards. LOVE IT and WANT TO USE IT!

Event Inspiration : Ruffles

As long as your eyes are open, you have probably noticed the influx of ruffles on the wedding circuit. Let me point out, I am not a ruffle girl. I didn't play with dolls growing up, or have dreams of a Victorian existence in our modern world. Not that there is anything wrong with either of those childhood scenarios, I'm simply offering you a glimpse, a tiny Malkovich-style portal into who I am and who I am most certainly not.

Tying in this Starbucks-induced rant: ruffles. They are popping up all over the place beyond wedding dresses and shoes and you know what, this non doll playing / anti-Victorian lover likes it! Yeah, I like it a lot. My three favorite places to see ruffles: table linen, chair linen and cakes.

Scarlett Lillian, a phenomenal photographer based out of Jacksonville who is of course available for travel worldwide, recently shot a wedding at the to-die-for gorgeous Vizcaya Museum in Miami where she showcased some fabulous ruffled table linens courtesy of Wild Flower Linens.

If you can stand it, I am also crushing on Chameleon Chair. Though all of their products are great, I am loving the ruffle collection. Hello! Seriously, hell-o!!!

In the end, the ultimate professional accomplishment is being able to take this amazing trend and let your clients eat it. Now who better to show you how it's done than my woman, Martha.

Okay, before you run out and buy a ruffled wedding gown, and ruffled shoes, a ruffle flower to place in your ruffled hair, while you carry the ruffled bouquet your florist designed, STOP. Don't go ruffle crazy, really don't go overboard with any idea, color, scent, concept... Like anything in life, moderation is key. If you don't know how to walk the fine line between sophisticated and kitschy contact a professional. Hmmmm, I have on the tip of my tongue, oh yeah - Lauren Daversa Events because perfect events don't just happen...they are planned.

Cake Inspiration : Succulents

Succulents; got to get me some of them.
Succulents; wow, how I love 'em.
Green, purple, a periwinkle blue,
Succulents, succulents: where, oh where are you?

Erica O'Brien got it right and then she scored extra credit with her gorgeous fondant cake, which she perfectly drowned with succulents. They look real right? Well, so do a lot of designer handbags in Chinatown, but they aren't and neither are these bad boys. Erica made them herself! Seriously, how talented is Erica! I can't wait to work with a bride who envisions succulents on her special day, and maybe she will have a cake that is as awesome as this! Enjoy...

L | D Finds : Exotic Chocolate Tasting

Chocolate is and always has been popular, however. I think chocolate has gone to Dr. Troy and Dr. McNamara and gotten a little Nip / Tuck, or at least hired a new publicist because it has been popping up all over the place and in new and sophisticated ways. For instance, chocolate was recently featured on My Fair Wedding when David Tutera brought a bride to a lesson in pairing wine and chocolate.

And just today, I received an email about exotic chocolate tasting and just fell in love with the idea of incorporating this during a dinner party. Through a guided tasting, Exotic Chocolate Tasting will combine the pleasure and fine nuances of chocolate in a fun, delicious and unique experience for you and your corporate or private guests. Similar to a fine wine tasting, you will discover exceptional artisan chocolates from around the world all in the comfort of your home or your own venue!

If you live in NYC, your in luck because Exotic Chocolate Tasting just so happens to be located there! The rest of us will have to be on the look out for a company in our neighborhood. Just make sure they are not sampling Hershey's :-)

Small Bites

InStyle Weddings rules! If you are looking for inspiration, look no further. There is always something fresh and innovative yet beautiful to be discovered on their website. Hmmmm, I use the same adjectives to describe my own company :-) Any-who...just this evening, as I was working hard at designing an invitation for an upcoming event...I found myself reading about scrumptious forkfuls of noodles twisted around a fork. What an awesome idea! Give your guests a small bite and keep their fingers clean and their tummies happy. Or how about late night pancake stacks! Also awesome. Who doesn't like pancakes? Guests would be blown away if you offered up a bite sized stack of mini-pancakes, complete with a drizzling of maple syrup. But you'd have to offer a little glass of milk to make it perfect.

Great ideas are always just a click away! Be creative, think outside the box and you will give guests a memorable and tummy-satisfying experience at your next event.

Laser Etched Plexiglass Invitation

One of 2010 new trends: laser etched plexiglass invitations. Try saying that 5 times in a row.

Custom made acrylic invitations are a fantastic way to set the tone for any event, corporate or social! These babies are available in an assortment of colors but that's just the beginning. There are a number of embellishment options that can really jazz these bad boys up: photographs, ribbons or swarovski crystals are just the tip of the ice berg!

Sound too good to be true? Well, here is the flip side...these trendy invites are not budget friendly. Not only is the product pricier than a regular invitation, but the cost to mail them is higher due to their weight and size. If your budget is willing check out Grapevine. Their work is incredibly impressive and they offer acrylic invitations.

Real Events : TRUNKSHOW

The holiday season is in full swing! Spending time with friends and family, shopping, parties, eating...it's exhausting but wonderful. One event that may have visited your home town this year is TRUNKSHOW, an organic, luxury goods showcased directly out of your own home. Sounds new and unique. Well it is! TRUNKSHOW was created by two very fashionable ladies. Don't worry if they have not made their way to your town yet, just visit their online store. Just in time for the holidays! And be sure to visit Yes Please Blog to check out the inspiration behind the gorgeous table design and Bash Eco Events for more pictures.

Real Events : Rebecca Thuss

You might not know her name but you certainly know her work. Rebecca Thuss is a ten year veteran of Martha Stewart Living, an award winning photo-stylist, a creative director, wedding designer and crafter who is responsible for the breathtaking work everyone swoons over. Yeah, she can literally make people sigh out loud; or maybe, quietly to themselves. Either way, she is an amazing talent who inspires people like me. If you are in need of some event inspiration you should visit her website and view her portfolio right now! You will not be disappointed.

DIY: Light Bulb Vase

Design Sprout posted this adorable alternative to CB2's teardrop hanging vase, which costs $4.95 each. This would be a great way to decorate any party. The vases could have ribbon wrapped around the top, flowers hanging out or floating inside. There are a lot of individual twists you could use to make this even more fabulous!

Supplies
via Isn't She Lovely

•A metal saw
•A light bulb
•2 screwdrivers (small and large)
•A round file
•Metal wire (beading or fishing wire should work)

Directions
translated to English from Esprit Cabane

•Saw the base of the screw cap with a metal saw, turning the bulb regularly, so you remove the electrical contact part.
•Once the base of the screw cap is cut, insert a screwdriver and break the glass tube that sticks out (be careful).
•Then, place a larger screwdriver in the cavity of glass, pushing down firmly, so the filament is separated from the bulb.
•With a round file, enlarge the opening and take out the filament. The bulb should be empty now.
•To create suspended vases, drill two holes by hand on both sides of the screw cap with a drill bit. The aluminum should pierce easily.
•Slip metal wire (or fishing wire) through the holes that you punched and tie a knot on each side (like a purse strap).
•Then suspend the vase from a hook, or wherever you like.
•Put a little water in the bulb and then some flowers.

Cake Inspiration

Real Simple posted a new article on 6 gorgeous wedding cakes and I fell in love with this cake created by Cakegirls intended for a garden wedding. Their dainty confection is comprised of hexagonal tiers of lemon zest butter cake with layers of cappuccino mousse covered in soft ivory fondant. Handmade edible fondant flowers perch atop piped chocolate branches. Simple, sweet and sounds absolutely delicious!

Inspirational Chandeliers

I am not sure what is going on but I am on a lighting kick today. In the past, I've written about how amazing Twitter is. Recently, I've chatted with Chandeliera who owns a website that showcases a stunning range of chandeliers to exquisitely illuminate and luxuriously decorate your home. Or in my case, events! Chandeliera has handpicked a gorgeous selection of chandeliers available online from quality retail outlets. They also have an inspiration gallery if you need some ideas. It's a great source of different chandeliers and interior creations. So check them out!
