Anyone who checks in regularly with LDE knows that:

I work really long hours and tend to have Pandora playing in my office.
I love music. I mean, I absolutely love, love, love music. It's always on. It's on when I'm working in the office; it's on when I get ready to attend an event; it's on when I'm driving to my meetings; it's certainly on during all of my special events + weddings (from set up to break down); it's on when I'm cleaning the house; it's on when I cook; it's even on during the few hours when I sleep. Point made? Think so.
I am a sucker for jazz, big band, standards, swing music - yada, yada, yada.
I thoroughly enjoy finding new music.

So, when Matt Dusk popped up on Pandora tonight, I seriously did an inner-back flip! He is awesome - very Buble! My favorite song is hands down Back In Town. And I mean favorite like - I LOVE it, like put-it-on-repeat-for-an-hour love it. Great song with a bit of big band, mixed with a little bit of pop, a touch of the standard and a hint of Madonna's "Back In Business" from Dick Tracey - hell ya, I just referenced Dick Tracey, a soundtrack I proudly own and still break out from time to time!

So, Mr. Dusk is the perfect artist to put on your wedding play list. Look him up and enjoy!

Real Wedding: Lisa + Cole

In February, LDE first introduced Lisa + Cole to everyone when I shared their breathtaking engagement session shot on location at Cole's family farm. Well, I am just so proud to now be able to share that their wedding was even more amazing then any one would have ever imagined -- except of course, myself ;-)

Focused on Forever was able to capture all the beauty of this special day and here is a sneak peak of the wedding - the beautiful bride, Lisa and her lily-pop bouquet. SIDE NOTE - this might be the largest, most amazing bouquet LDE's has ever seen!

Meet Rachel + Anil.

In three words: they are amazing. Truly beautiful inside and out. And their love for one another is incredible. We began planning their destination wedding in September of 2010 and what a fantastic time we had!

In April, Rach + Anil spent the afternoon in New York City with Trent Bailey for their engagement session. What an awesome shoot. Anil even serenading Rachel in the middle of Central Park. Honestly, LDE has the most romantic grooms out there today. I'm not even adding fluff to this post! It's so inspiring to be around as it's proof that romance is absolutely alive + kicking.

Meet Vanessa + Camilo!

This couple is not only gorgeous but they are the sweetest pair I have ever met. The love they have for one another is inspiring. We began planning their wedding in January and I can honestly share that I had a blast every single time we got together. The bride, the bride's awesome mother and I would meet almost every two weeks for bridal planning sessions. However, we would not do anything wedding related until we sat for a while and enjoyed our coffee!

In August, Vanessa + Cami had their engagement session with Cengiz, the unbelievably talented artist behind Adagion Studio. I can never say enough about Cengiz and his talent. Once again, I am so proud of his work. The pictures represent the passion and love between these two and of course the amazing pulse of the Design District in Miami.

What LDE Friends Are Up To : Coolinary Cafe

One of the coolest aspects of my job is meeting people, and I can honestly share that my clients are just the most talented, impressive group of people I've ever met. And this is no lie. Take for example Tim Lipman.

You may remember when I posted the breathtaking pictures of Tim and Jenny shot by Jessica Lorren. Well, that was almost two years ago, which is when Tim first called Lauren Daversa Events for help with his wedding to Jenny, his (then) beautiful fiance. First, no you're not reading this incorrectly. I was indeed contacted by the groom for wedding planning help. LOVE IT! Second, Tim was a groom who knew exactly what he wanted and he was not afraid to share. So what did he want? You will love this, prepare to have your heart melt: Tim wanted to make sure Jenny got everything she wanted on her wedding day. Insert your sigh here!

So with less than three months to go, we quickly got to work creating their dream wedding, which was a gorgeous family style affair set in the beautifully landscaped backyard of one of their closest friend's homes. And on a late November night, Tim and Jenny exchanged vows and then dined under the stars in a glowing cabana that featured long flowing drapes, wrought iron pendant lanterns and a feast fit for a king.

Now this was no ordinary feast as, at the time, Tim was the very talented, very passionate, executive chef at Leftovers Cafe in Jupiter. SIDE NOTE, Leftovers just so happens to be one of my favorite restaurants. Chocolate nutmash - that's all I have to say. His enthusiasm for his culinary gift is truly awesome to witness. And now, his ability to harness both his enthusiasm and his gift to make his dream come true is impressive. Yup, that's right, my amazing couple are living out their dreams with the opening of their first restaurant, the Coolinary Cafe.

This American contemporary restaurant will feature a gourmet menu based on the farm-to-table concept, infusing local products with flavorful influences from around the globe. In addition to the yummy food, the Coolinary Cafe will also feature craft beers, loose leaf teas, and handmade sodas. How awesome is that...handmade sodas!

It is incredibly exciting for me to follow my clients on the path that they are carving out for their life together. It is this path that was created on their wedding day, a day that we planned together. To quote Rachel Zoe, "I die." Surfing the Internet tonight brought me to Untamed Petals. Score! Then surfing Untamed Petals brought be to a Swarovski hand-embellished rhinestone flower. Double score.

Okay, it's $398 bucks but hello...it's amazing. Talk about infusing a little glamour into your wedding day. The petals are hand wired and then encrusted with Swarovski flat back rhinestones. The piece is then attached to an alligator clip for easy placement. AND, it can be customized. Certainly worthy of an L | D Find!

LDE Featured: Custom Laura Hooper Map

I can not say for certain exactly when it was when I was first introduced to Laura Hooper, however. It was definitely a love at first sight type of thing. Seriously, her calligraphy is amazing and her maps are iconic. So I was especially ecstatic when one of my March 2012 bride's shared her desire to have her very own custom Laura Hooper map to use as a save the date.

This custom map features Fort Lauderdale, the future city for my bride's wedding. And what would a LH map be without all sorts of fun, Florida inspired details like alligators, shells, crabs, flamingos, Disney World, the famous Las Olas Boulevard, and the historic Bonnet House, which is the setting for both the ceremony and reception!

What a pleasure it is to be able to work with such talented artists like Laura. If you are not familiar with her work...wow, are you in for a serious treat as it's really one-of-a-kind, super personalized bits of goodness!

Signature Drink Club : Watermelon Cocktail

Happy Fourth of July! As I finish up a little office work and prepare to spend the holiday with friends + family, I knew it would be the perfect time for a Signature Drink Club post - and what would be more fun + appropriate than a Watermelon Cocktail, courtesy of Drink of the Week.

4th of July Watermelon Cocktail

Ingredients

7 1/2 pounds seedless watermelon, rind removed, fruit cut into 1-inch cubes
4 teaspoons superfine sugar
8 ounces silver tequila
12 basil leaves
12 mint leaves
2.5 ounces Cointreau
6 cups ice

Directions

Make watermelon ice cubes by putting 24 pieces of cubed watermelon on a baking sheet lined with wax paper.
Freeze for one hour, covered.
Take the rest of the watermelon plus the sugar and puree until smooth.
Strain into a bowl.
Put the tequila, basil and mint in a pitcher and muddle.
Stir in Cointreau and watermelon puree.
Pour mixture into cocktail shaker with ice and mix for each cocktail.
Put watermelon ice cubes in a glass and pour cocktail in.
Garnish with herb sprigs and enjoy!

Real Wedding : Sara + Drew, Sole East

You were first introduced to Sara + Drew when I shared their incredible NYC engagement shoot shot by internationally acclaimed photographer Cengiz of Adagion Studio, however. I was introduced to Sara, the bride, by another LDE bride whose wedding stationery I designed. At first, we shared emails for a few months until finally setting up a meet 'n' greet during one of my monthly NYC business trips. Though my day was fully packed, I squeezed in just enough time to cab it over to the west side on a rainy yet humid fall day to meet with this most awesome couple!

By January, Sara + Drew officially became an Lauren Daversa Events bride + groom and gave me 5 months to help plan their big day. And oh, what a day we planned!

Meet Sara + Drew!

Introduced to me by a client - thank you Andrea :-) - it's been amazing since our first telephone conversation. We only started to plan their May wedding in the very beginning of 2011, and are now we are almost 4 weeks out from the big day!

This past weekend, they had their engagement session with Cengiz, the unbelievably talented artist behind Adagion Studio. I am so proud of this e-shoot, and like a proud mama, I literally showed them to an entire room of people when the pictures popped up on my phone last night.

So, takling the fact Cengiz turned it around in less than 24 hours - seriously, who does that? - the pictures are absolutely fabulous. The city is alive in each and every image, and Sara + Drew even more so as they run wild throughout the concrete jungle - the two love nuts they are!!! The energy between them is perfectly captured. Their happiness, their comfort, their style (hello, Drew rocks a pocket square!).

Real Events : Behind The Scenes of LDE

The last few months have been on fire with the most amazing special events + weddings. I am incredibly blessed to be living my dream as the owner of a thriving event planning company. As The Daversa Group gears up for the Maker's Mark experience tent at Barrett-Jackson + Taste of the Nation and Lauren Daversa Events puts the finishing touches on our spring weddings at The Norton Museum of Art, Sole East, Chesterwood and Trump - I am pausing for a moment to enjoy the fun images Sara + Jason of Concept Photography shared with me from a recent Colony wedding on Palm Beach. Everything was outstanding, from the custom first look picnic I created to the final moments when the groom shared his air guitar skills as he rocked out to Rush's Limelight!!! It's no secret that life at Lauren Daversa Events has been moving ahead at full speed for quite some time. What most of my readers probably do not know is there is also a corporate division in this little company 'o' mine -The Daversa Group, which has also been moving ahead at lightening speed! Many people, actually, most people ask me at some point how do I keep it together. Besides being composed of pure, good ole' awesome-ness, LoL, I'd have to say music. Music is such a huge, HUGE part of my day. I can honestly say that I always have music on, where ever I am, whatever I am doing. That's one of the reasons why I like to take a few moments out and share what I'm currently grooving out to in the periodic Current Music posts.

Lately, I have really been into percussion. Just can't get enough of it. It it were up to me, I would enhance all of my events by pairing recorded music with live percussionists. It's just bad $ss - and Luisito Quintero is bad $ss! Born in Caracas, Venezuela, he traveled extensively with Oscar D’Leon and has worked with the late Tito Puente, Eddie Palmieri, Marc Anthony, Gloria Estefan, Richard Bona, Jack Dejonette, Willie Colon, George Benson, Natalie Cole, Herbie Hancock, Nuyorican Soul, and Masters at Work to name a few. Real Celebrity Wedding: James Wieland + Jennifer Dalla Riva

It was a hot August day in 2009 when Lauren Daversa Events first met with WPTV-Channel 5 weatherman James Wieland and Palm Beach Post advertising rep Jennifer Dalla Riva to discuss plans for what I knew would be an unforgettable wedding celebration.

Almost two years + countless hours of meticulous planning later, I'm happy to announce the wedding was a complete success! Not only was James + Jennifer's wedding an extraordinarily significant moment in their lives, but in mine as well...and you can see why after viewing the breathtaking images shot by Shannon Mathis of Mi.Amore.Foto. With such grace, Shannon captured the overwhelming emotion and love the beautiful couple radiated the entire day.

James + Jennifer are so incredibly in love and their enthusiasm for each other and for the wedding never ended! I was honored to be chosen to plan the most special day in their lives and will remember this always. Signature Drink Club : The Melagrana

Wow...I am not proud to admit it but I've dropped the ball with my Signature Drink Club. It's been almost 8 months since an entry, and it's not because I've been out sampling all the featured drinks! Lauren Daversa Events has truly been blessed with being busy. No complaints here, however, the fun little ideas I used to be able to write about morning, noon and night have certainly suffered.

So great news...I've just discovered a new member of the club that will make up for the long absence: The Melagrana courtesy of Pulino's Bar & Pizzeria. Here is why I like this drink: one of the main ingredients is prosecco, and I just so happen to be prosecco's biggest fan. And then for a little twist, the drink features yuzu juice, Pama pomegranate liqueur and a splash of Tanqueray. Right on! Absolutely perfect for a signature drink. Enjoy!

Real Weddings : Patty + Francois, Norton Museum of Art

Lauren Daversa Events started 2011 going over 100 MPH and I am only slowing down for a minute to write this post! I could not be more excited to share the first wedding of this new year, which belonged to the ridiculously good looking Patty + Francois - and by the way, I infused that sentence with a little essence of Zoolander.

So, Patty + Francois are not only beautiful but they are passionate about the world in which we live in - it's truly inspiring. When I first sat with Patty and her mother in August of 2010, we discussed one of their main goals for the wedding: a desire to be conscious of the carbon footprint it would leave behind. Carefully, invitations, food, decor, favors were all selected keeping their wished close to heart.

Only food from local sources was served at the wedding; the invitations were printed on recycled paper; fruit was used for centerpieces in lieu of flowers; the groom ventured out the day before the wedding and picked oranges right off of the tree, which we used for table number holders; the aisle was made of burlap which (by now) has probably been put to use in the families garden; and the couple made homemade granola for favors. I tasted it...it was delicious!

Another very important detail for the wedding that Patty shared with me was the absolute necessity for an amazing band. Immediately I could only think of one man for the job, my fav, Mr. Jose Betancourt and his band! Simply put, they are the best. Jose had EVERYONE dancing...everyone!

Of course the staff at The Norton and the entire team from Lyon + Lyon were fabulous and the evening was just perfect. And on top of all this amazing-ness, it's always extra special to work so closely with a couple who have very strong personal beliefs and be able to reflect their beliefs into their wedding. Perfect! Simply perfect! I find everything that Kandee Johnson shares in this video to be just perfect. Not only am I am a huge fan of everything makeup related but I am also a huge fan of Kandee Johnson. So this video is pretty much a win-win for me. But for all my brides who are not enlisting the help of a professional makeup artist for the big day, please watch this video. Yes, it's a little long but it's filled with fabulous tips that you can use on your wedding day or whenever you need a little more va-voom with your makeup.

Cole + Lisa

It was after hours one Tuesday evening when my office phone rang. As I try to always be available for my clients - hey, I work in a 24/7 business - I answered the call. 60 fantastic minutes later, following one fabulous conversation with a very cool mother-of-the-groom, I was officially planning a wedding for her son Cole and his bride to be, Lisa.

We moved very quickly and picked a venue, the always beautiful Jupiter Beach Resort & Spa and then turned to photography. Lisa and Cole fell in love with Focused on Forever and only a few weeks after their first call to Lauren Daversa Events, I am excited to share a few of the images from their engagement shoot.

Cole's family is just overflowing with talent. Cole is the mastermind behind Sports Mans Gold, his father started Italian Rose and his mother is the beauty + brains behind Legacy Farms, which also served as the picturesque location for the happy couple's e-shoot.

What can I say, this family is amazing! We clicked instantly. Cole + Lisa, I am so excited for your big day, which is only 9 months away! It's going to be an unbelievable wedding. Stay tuned...

2011 is set to be a record year for so many reasons: The Knot will nationally feature one of our amazing 2010 weddings as one of their "Real Weddings"; our new service for Platinum Brides will be unveiled following their fall weddings; our satellite office in New York will design three weddings in South Hampton, New York City, and Stockbridge; The Daversa Group welcomes our first two corporate clients; and, of course, we will remain as busy as every designing beautiful weddings and offering DOC for our fabulous 2011 brides!

As I review my travel itinerary for tomorrow's trip which takes me to the cold and snowy northeast, specifically, to my amazing hometown of New York, New York where I'll be meeting with a current bride + groom, a potential bride + groom and production company, I find myself enjoying the soothing sounds of Gigi Shibabaw and her infectious song, Gud Fella. I first met with Patty (the bride to be) and Martha (mother of the bride) to discuss their wedding 6 months ago. Patty lives in Australia and the wedding venue is here in West Palm Beach. After discussing exactly what she wanted for her special day, the rest of the planning was left to her mother and Lauren Daversa Events.

Since I opened my company, my inbox gets frequent visits from people from all over the place asking me all sorts of different questions. Whether it's one of my own brides or grooms, a potential bride or groom, a mother of a bride or groom, or just a random person - they've all got questions or need some sort of guidance. And the flattering part is they want me to help! Fortunately, it's in my nature to want to help, which is a pretty good thing - after all, I am a wedding planner and it's my job to fix problems and guide my clients along on their planning journey. And from this was born: ASK LAUREN.

"Do I need a wedding planner if my venue has an in-house planner?"
A.

Sorry to turn into a bit of a politician here (no offense to politicians) but this question does not have yes or no answer. In fact, the answer is really more of an explanation of the difference between "in-house" and private. From this explanation, you as the bride or groom will be able to determine the answer, which really lies within your own wedding needs and wants.

The most important detail in this equation is for the bride + groom being able to understand that an in-house coordinator or planner is just that: an employee who represents the hotel or club. An independent wedding coordinator or planner who owns and operates their own private business, represents their clients (ie, the bride + groom; ie, you + your fiancé). Again, it is this difference that will dictate as to whether or not you need to hire a wedding planner, independent from your venue.

The in-house coordinator will do just as the title states, coordinate your event logistics as they relate to the venue. The keywords here are as they related to the venue. The independent, or private, wedding planner will coordinate all of your event logistics, from start to finish. Not just what is pertains to the wedding venue. Furthermore, a private planner will have your best interest at heart and not have the conflict of serving their employer, or the venue.

The in-house coordinator will recommend vendors from their vendor list for you to coordinate all of the details with on your own. The vendors you will be referred to will most likely have either paid to be included on this vendor list, or they frequently have worked at this venue. Yes, it is certainly an advantage if they frequently work at your wedding venue. However, it does not mean that they are the right fit for you and your wedding. An independent planner will suggest the right vendors for the bride + groom to work with based on their taste, style, personality and budget. Furthermore, they will negotiate the best price for the bride + groom, handle the contracts and communication and assume the role of a liaison between the couple and the vendors. The result of this, the elimination of all of the headaches from the constant back and forth while all the details are sorted out. The result of this, you and your fiancé are allowed to enjoy the festivities of being engaged!

Seems like enough, right! But there's more...

The in-house coordinator will be on-site for the wedding day to ensure the tables and chairs are put out and set up, they will make sure the bar is stocked and that the cake is set up. They will of course ensure the yummy food is served! Generally after dinner is on it's way, the in-house coordinator will leave the remainder of the wedding in the hands of a banquet captain. An independent planner is with their bride + groom from the start of event set up until the end of event break down. They get you ready for the ceremony, they get you back into the car at the reception and then they handle everything in between (both what you plan on and what you never thought could happen).

The in-house coordinator could be responsible for two or three weddings happening at the venue all on the same day as your wedding. The in-house coordinator could be showing prospective brides the venue at the same time as the start of your ceremony. The in-house coordinator could be catching up on paperwork and contracts at the same time as your grand entrance. An independent planner is focused solely on the bride + groom, their families and making sure all the vendors are doing what they are being paid to do so your wedding is perfect.

Now, don't get me wrong. I am all for in-house coordinators! They are my friends, as I see them most every weekend, and they provide an invaluable service - they manage the venue. However, a wedding is a lot more than just the venue. There are about 8 - 12 months of planning that must be attended to and nurtured, sort of like a little baby.

Now, if you are having a wedding that does not have many details that must be organized, or you're planning a casual wedding, or you're an easy-breezy bride + groom, well you may be able to get away with the in-house coordinator.

BUT if you're planning a large wedding, with a lot of details that need to be handled, if you're a bride + groom with a lot of needs, if you need help with the planning from A-Z, if you want to find the best vendors who fit into your budget and style, well then it is certainly in your best interest to hire a wedding planner!

Recently, I have decided to pick up a new obsession: balsa wood flowers. Also called tapioca flowers, these beauts are hand carved. That's right! These flowers, which are the wooden love child between a succulent and a ranuncula, are made from ecologically sustainable timber that will never wilt, never die and never-ever fade. Never-ever? Never-ever!

Ah-ma-zing, right? I know.

These babies have been popping up all over the place and sometimes require a double take. Sort of like with the succulents on this cake. Remember that! So if you are looking for a fun and/or eco-friendly and/or a more permanent bouquet or boutonnière option, ask your planner or designer how you can incorporate some basla into your program!

Real Events : Nicole Richie's Marchesa Dress

One day I was shopping for a dress to wear to a wedding. I needed to look elegant and chic, as it was a Miami wedding. On the wall at Neiman was the most gorgeous LBD and it was on this day when I bought my first Marchesa dress. Ever since, I've been a huge, HUGE lover of their dresses and it really comes as no surprise to see Nicole Richie rocking this ah-ma-zing piece for her big day. "The gown featured some intricate lace detailing above and a gorgeous skirt made from over 100 yards of hand-draped silk organza and tulle petals." Love it!!! And it was one of three dresses that she wore during her wedding. Love that event more!

During my nightly Facebook check, I was ecstatic to see that Mi Amore Foto was featured on Style Me Pretty for stunningly capturing this wedding at Grove Isle Resort + Spa.

Grove Isle holds a special place in my heart as it was one of the first "Florida" venues I visited after I moved from the city. Located on a private island, it's a very intimate resort that truly possesses the ability to whisk you away to a secluded retreat that features old south Florida style! I vividly remember being totally blown away by this property and felt incredibly happy to have relocated to such a beautiful place. On top of this, there is an awesome view of the Miami skyline AND the property has a life-sized chess board with 3-foot chess pieces. Brides, remember this for a fun e-shoot location!

In any event, Shannon, the pictures are breathtaking. Congratulations on joining the SMP family! You truly have a gift for capturing all the fine details that make a wedding unique and giving people the ability to feel what it was like to be a part of this most special day. Wedding Gowns Under $250

Daryl, one of my favorite brides!, and I swooned over Fancy Dress. Their dresses are amazing creations for a bride looking to step a little outside the box. As it has been a few months since a Wedding Gowns Under $250 post and Fancy Dress deserves a post all to itself, I am happy to share with everyone a link to their new blog which showcases their sample sale items. That's right - I have literally given away a seriously good secret because every dress is perfection! And I am talking BDP: Betty Draper perfection!

The dress that jumped out at me is the Gracie, a poly satin with one layer of flocked dotted tulle, vintage grosse graine ribbon at the waist for $150. Okay so you have to be a size 6 (or smaller) to wear it...so, you go to the gym and put the Häagen-Dazs away for awhile. At this price and considering the level of fabulous-ness (total BDP) ... it is beyond worth it, AND most certainly proves that beautiful can be affordable.

As I clicked away, coming across dress after dress after dress, I kept falling more and more in love with each one. Until I saw Jenny, and I fell so hard that I hit my head. The Grecian inspired shoulders, the lovely pewter green fabric, the overlay...everything. It's almost too much BDP. I know, you have to be a size 6, but HELLO...all this style and for $150? It's too good to be true. I can definitely put down the spoon for a little while to fit in!

See, beautiful can be affordable. Thank you Fancy Dress! You have an admirer for life!

Thanks to a lot of extra, extra, extra effort from Cabana Pictures, the trailer for one of my favorite weddings of the year (SIDE NOTE: if you didn't already know...it's Libby + Jon) went live on Thanksgiving. Can you honestly not think of a better holiday to receive such a gift!

I could fill up an entire blog with praise and compliments about Cabana Pictures. I absolutely adore them, and their work, and their style, and their work ethic and just the whole package. CP is one of only a few cinematographers who mix 16MM footage with HD video and the result is truly unique and stunning. They captured the day beautifully. and the trailer makes me cry each time I watch it. Hope you enjoy watching it just as much as we did making it happen!

Significant Songs : Dean Martin

If you cannot tell by my blog, music plays a huge role in my life and my work. In my house, music is on at all times: from the moment I wake up, throughout the entire day, until I fall asleep at night. I can honestly say that I really love all types of music, and I event keep a running log of songs that I believe would be a unique option for significant songs in a wedding or special event. And just tonight I decided to start sharing them with all of you!

I'll Buy That Dream is an all time favorite song of mine, beautifully sung by Dean Martin. Without fail, every single time I hear it, I imagine it being used for a 1st dance. In my head, I envision a videographer filming in black + white, possibly using a Super 8 or 16 MM - HD of course.

This wedding definitely takes place in a grand ballroom, with a bride wearing a princess wedding dress and her new husband sporting a tux. To kick up the drama during this 1st dance, I'd shine a bright spotlight on them as they twirl around on the dance floor for the first time as husband + wife as Dean sings "Imagine you in a gown white and flowery / and me thanking dad for my dowry / a church full of folks / in those last minute jokes / I'll buy that dream...Imagine me on our first anniversary / with some one like you in the nursery / it doesn't sound bad / and if it can be had / I'll buy that dream." LOVE IT!

Don't be fooled, I am no fair weather friend to the crooners. I'm a huge fan of the Rat Pack and celebrate their entire catalog. As a young twenty-something in NYC, I was always listening to Sid Mark + Sunday's With Frank.

Real Weddings : Kate + Paul : Palm Beach

About 1 week ago, I shared a little glimpse into the world of Kate + Paul. First of all, I want to let it be known that I love their little world. It's a world where everything has meaning, where everything is well thought out and attention to detail is an understatement. Just to give you a little insight as to what I'm describing ... during their recent engagement session with Jessica Lorren Organic Photography, Jess discovered the champagne saucers they sipped champagne from belonged to Kate's grandmother; the food they munched during their picnic was homemade; and the fabric which the blanket they dined on came straight from Kate's family's fabric shop. This thoughtfulness, detail and history was of course abundant at their wedding. I am eagerly awaiting Jess' photographs from this most special wedding celebration but for now, please enjoy a single sneak peak from Kate + Paul's breathtaking wedding.

"Is it okay to put 12 people at a 60" table?"
A.

For me, it's an easy answer: NO. Under no circumstance should you cram too many guests at a table incapable of accommodating them. Even if you Google it and you find a seating chart that says 60" can seat up to 12 people, it's still not okay. Even if you are strapped for space, it's still not okay. Even if you have last minute guests who decided to come, it's still not okay. Even if the on-site coordinator is trying to tell you it's okay and your guests will be comfortable, it's still not okay. Plan for the comfort of your guests who traveled to witness the start of your new life and seat the appropriate amount of people at the appropriate size table. You might be able to convince me 9 guests can fit at a 5 foot table, but absolutely not 10, 11 or 12 because a 60" will comfortable accommodate 8 adult guests.

This is a common question and touches upon a large aspect of planning any event, which is logistics. Unless you have experience in this area and understanding how to layout an event space, it is unlikely a non-event person can answer them correctly. Working with a wedding planner will ensure that any of the scenarios listed above, or a myriad of other scenarios, do not play out during your planning process. They are costly headaches you will not want to deal with during the last few weeks leading up to you special day.

I love checking my Facebook page. I get to see what all my friends are up to, and what other people are going to try and copy and pass off as their own!

So this morning while I was scrolling through all the posts on my news feed, it came as no surprise when this awesomeness from Jessica Lorren popped up. Meet Kate + Paul. Don't they look like such a dreamy couple! And when you put dreamyness in front of Jessica Lorren - well - then you and I get to look at pictures like the one above...and sigh!

In a less than two weeks, Kate + Paul will be married and Jessica will there documenting what's most definitely going to be an amazing day. Just this evening as I was checking in with Facebook, and a trailer popped up on my news feed that caught my eye. When I realized it was from my friends over at Cabana Pictures I knew I had to watch it, and of course it's amazing. They truly have a unique way of capturing moments.

In a few weeks, I will be working with an extremely talented team that I've assembled to produce a dream wedding celebration for my clients Libby + Jon, which includes Cabana Pictures. I've been planning this wedding for over 6 months and the big day is getting closer and closer. After watching their trailer, I am somehow even more excited for Libby + Jon's wedding. And might it even be possible that I am more excited than the bride + groom? TOTW : Beyond Personal Flowers

Don't forget your floral budget needs to account for all of your event, not just the boutonnieres, rose petals and centerpieces. Flowers are utilized so many other areas of an event that are often put on the back burner. For instance, does your venue have light sconces on the wall that don't fit your scheme? How about unsightly vents, occupancy signs or outlet boxes you'd prefer to have covered? Think a further outside the box...could the bathrooms use a little flower power? Are the doorways in need of a garland? Is the driveway leading up to the venue dark and uninviting? Would uplights or pillar candles covered by hurricanes do the trick? And how about cocktail hour? Are the servers passing goat cheese tarts on silver trays? Wouldn't placing the delicate bites on top of banana leaves be a nice touch? And dinner - how will the food be presented on the buffet?

Many couples plan an elaborate event yet they don't budget funds to cover this portion of the decor. Unfortunately, they realize the need in the eleventh hour and have to increase the funds to maintain the look throughout the room/event or be left with incomplete look to their event.

Quality linen, flowers, leaves, branches, wheat grass, moss, rocks, acrylic pedestals, custom tables, fruit, silver or gold serving sets, personal pictures, books, mirrors, frames - I could go on for a long time - can be incorporated into the design of your event to add depth, fill in the space and accent the surroundings. But before adding on, check with the caterer to see what type of decor they will include in their pricing.

Don't be discouraged if you are working with a tight budget. Compromising on your budget does not mean you have to compromise on your style and decor! There are a lot of creative avenues to take to add nice touches, which can also cover the venue's sore spots. Working with a wedding planner is a fool proof way to maximize your budget while ensuring that you dot your i's and cross your t's - and don't get left with a bare buffet!

Not too long ago, I received an inquiry from a bride in NYC - yay NYC! - looking for help to plan her spring of 2011 destination wedding here in Florida. Even thought we only spoke via phone and email, we clicked right away.

TOTW : Diacritical Marks

This week's TOTW is a fun tip to help relieve a small amount of stress from our brides + grooms who don't know how to format diacritic marks in excel. Okay but what's a diacritic mark? The answer is diacritical marks are ancillary glyphs found in many international names and addresses. For instance in the Scandinavian languages, characters with diacritics include ä, ö and å.

Great, and why do you need to be able to format them in Excel? Well, since I am sure you are all organizing your guest list in excel - is it is the preferred format for most every printer - you may find that you have a guest with an international name or address. Ahh, now you see why you need to know how to incorporate diacritic marks into Excel!

Don't worry, the answer is SO simple because you can type any character from the ASCII character set. Hold down the ALT key while typing in 0 + the number of the character you want. For instance, you can enter a German umlauted u (ü) into a cell by typing ALT 0252 followed by ENTER. See, I told you it was simple.

Where would you find this magical list? Well, there are tons of character sets available on the Internet. They will list all the ASCII characters and their corresponding numbers so you can painstakingly format all your fabulous international names and addresses for your DIY invitations. This video is hilarious! A little long but it gets good. WARNING: not all vendors are created equal - and you will see why if you watch the parody above!

The sad thing is, clients hire vendors who are so green or just scam artists because they simply just don't know. The one thing that bothers me to no end is when I find out my DOC couple's are working with craptastic vendors because I know they will not be happy with the product they are going to get.

Some vendors are more expensive than others; some have more experience than others; some are more creative; some are better communicators; some are better at sticking to the budget; some are better dreamers; some are better at follow through. When talking with vendors keep these the two things to keep in mind:

1.) In most all cases, you get what you pay for.
2.) Just because you refer to yourself as something, does not mean you are. Hello, just ask someone how tall they are or what they weigh and then weigh/measure them!

True story, I have spoken with a bride, on more than one occasion, who wants to have a 150 person wedding, on a Saturday night, in March, at an oceanside mansion, with a 5-course meal, a photographer, videographer, 7 piece band, photobooth, an antique Rolls Royce, a Vera Wang wedding dress and full coordination from a wedding coordinator on a $10K budget. First of all, Lauren Daversa Events is not the company for you! And second, the scenario listed above is impossible! Seriously, it's impossible. And I cannot think of one experienced planner who could make this happen - unless they are competing on a TV show and pulling favors from ALL of their industry colleagues.

So brides, if the wedding you want is listed above, and you speak with a planner who says they can make this happen...walk away. No, run away. Or else you will end up with a planner like one featured in the video above and a lot of heartache and disappointment on your special day! The investment in hiring an experienced planner is worth it. A coordinator is your guide through the planning process, the person who will save you money and ensure you work with experienced professionals! Yeah, we're worth it!

TOTW : Ceremony Music Demystified

Holy batman! Lauren Daversa Events is BUSY! We've got weddings going on all over the place and we couldn't be more excited. I've been asked a lot lately to explain the different parts of the ceremony music. If my brides are asking, chances are some of my readers would like to know too! So without further ado, the latest installment of our famous Tip Of The Week.

There are four parts that make up the ceremony music: prelude, processional, recessional and postlude. Below is a succinct description of each area to help solve the mystery behind ceremony music.

Prelude

The prelude music is the background music played prior to the start of the ceremony for anywhere between fifteen to thirty minutes as your guests are being seated. Don't let the idea of this being background music trick you, as the prelude helps to set the mood for your wedding. Ask yourself, "Is my wedding religious, romantic, chic and modern, elegant, unique, ethnic, joyous?" Or, is your wedding a combination? Once you've picked your selections, remember to have the music played quiet enough for your guests to be able to carry on a conversation once they've found their seats.

Processional

The procession is the music played while key members of your ceremony walk, or process, down the aisle. The key members are grandparents of the groom, parents of the groom, grandparents of the parents of the bride, bridesmaids, groomsmen, flower girls, ring bearers, ushers who unroll the aisle runner, and most importantly, the bride. You may select different pieces to accompany the different members of the party (parents / attendants / bride) however, limit your selection to three or less. Decide whether you want to have a grand or understated entrance as this dictates whether you should select pieces to build up the intensity to create the huge anticipation of the arrival of, well you - the bride. Or, whether you should select pieces that are more subdued to create a more quiet, peaceful entrance.

Whichever way you go, make sure to have a designated friend/family member to cue the musicians, or even better, hire a planner like Lauren Daversa Events. Or else you really run the risk of the processional turning into a whole mess with bridal party members wondering when to go, musicians wondering when to play, musicians wondering when to stop playing, doors opening with people peering out to see what is going on, guests looking around knowing crazy behind the scenes shenanigans are happening, groomsmen continuing to be confused. Just madness, and certainly not what you want for your once in a lifetime wedding ceremony.

Recessional

The recessional is celebratory music played as you and your new husband and your entire wedding party exit the building! Musicians should be ready for the cue - unique to every ceremony - that signals them to begin the recessional. It could be the kiss or the officiant's introduction of, "Mr. and Mrs. We Just Got Married." Again, make sure to have this worked out in advance. Vendors are not mind readers and it this has not been discussed then it is a perfect opportunity for a little ceremony music drama to be infused into your service.

Postlude

The postlude is the background music played as the guests are being dismissed, similar to the prelude.

The Secret Fifth Part of Ceremony Music

The secret fifth part of ceremony music refers to any optional points during the ceremony where you may want to have music or singer(s) perform. For instance, the lighting of the unity candle, interlude between readings, responses, alleluias, mass parts, during the sign of peace, immediately following the vow exchange, during and after communion, a moment of reflection, a rose presentation, sand ceremony, memorial candle ... just to list a few. As you work with the officiant on your service, you will learn the specific moments where music would be an appropriate addition.

It's official: on Saturday, July 31, 2010, Chelsea Clinton was married to Marc Mezvinsky at Astor Courts in Rhinebeck, New York. According to People Magazine, it was a strapless silk organza gown with a draped tulle bodice and an embellished belt designed by Vera Wang. Nice! Of course the dress Chelsea wore was stunning but she really has transformed and looked amazing! Wedding Gowns Under $250

It's been a few months since a Wedding Gowns Under $250 post and this dress is very similar to May's fab find. And to be totally honest, it is not priced under $250 but it is really stunning and not too much more expensive than the magic number.

When my brides ask me where to look for bridesmaids dresses, a rehearsal dress or possibly a second wedding dress one of the stores I refer them to is BCBG. Their clothing is not outrageously priced, you can find a store in your local mall and they have a great selection of dresses. So I wasn't surprised whatsoever when I was perusing through their evening affair attire and I came across this beautiful tiered satin gown. The strapless dress features cascading tiers, a sweetheart neckline and a lovely full-length silhouette with curved pleating at neckline... perfect for a wedding! Okay, so this number will set you back $298 bucks, $48 over my cutoff but I just couldn't pass up sharing this one - almost proving - that beautiful can be affordable.

Florida Beach Wedding : 101 : The Wind

Home base for Lauren Daversa Events is the beautiful beach town of Jupiter, Florida and it is truly is gorgeous here. How gorgeous? Well, enough to make a die hard New Yorker decide to call somewhere else home! How did I make the switch? Well, Jupiter is just a fabulous location. But besides being picturesque, I am a hop skip and a jump away from the beach, just a few miles north of historic Palm Beach, about an hour north of Miami and a two hour flight from my hometown - and site of our new sister office, New York City! See, Jupiter is the perfect location, and not only for family and business but also for a beach wedding!!!

Lauren Daversa Events gets all sorts of interesting inquiries from around the United States from brides looking for help to organize their dream beach-side nuptials. I have to be honest, a lot of these brides have quite a few misconceptions about the logistics involved in a south Florida beach wedding. So many in fact, I am going to share them with you in hopes of debunking these myths / fantasies / delusions.

For the most part, the confusion comes from this idea that a beach wedding is somehow easier to plan and a less inexpensive route to take versus a resort, hotel, or private estate. And I guess in the most basic way sure, it can be. If you have a very small group (I mean ten, maybe twenty, definitely pushing it with thirty). But when I get calls from brides who have $5K dollars for their budget and are trying to plan a "simple" beach wedding for 150 people, I am grinning on the other end of the phone like the Cheshire Cat.

Soooooooo, where to start with beach weddings? For now, in the middle with something out of all of our control: The Wind. Yes, as a planner I can plan for everything except what Mother Nature is going to do. And when she unleashes her gusty winds, well she goes and changes your serene beach wedding to a carnival of swirly-whirly.

East coast beaches are not shielded from the wind, and wind generally means cold. Now with Florida being the Sunshine State and all, no, it does not get super cold here. But don't let that mislead you. Sitting by the beach when it's windy, is cold enough. Add gusty wind and that equals cold guests, cold wedding party, and most importantly, a cold bride! This can be fixed by tying pashminas around the back of the ceremony or reception chairs - have them do double duty as ceremony decor, and then wrapping the bridal party up in coordinating throws. Easy fix ;-)

But gusty winds also means that the beautiful programs you stayed up for three days to hand make and place on the seats, will probably blow straight into the Atlantic. Easy fix - you can just incorporate starfish as a paper weight to keep the programs on each seat! Let's kick it up a notch - yay Emeril.

Gusty wind means the flowers, chuppah, draping, dangling crystals, candles, rose petals, aisle runner, your hair, your veil and a whole list of other things will be blowing around every which way. See where this is going. Okay, not on board yet? How about this, sound. Yup, I typed sound. And sound is an issue at any event - inside or outside - but sound is a big issue when you're by the ocean. You see the beautiful, crashing waves and wide, open space will literally soak up the melodies that beautiful quartet you hired are playing. Or, they will soak up the romantic sounds from the Spanish guitar player who is passionately strumming as your walk down the aisle. Yeah, no one can hear the quartet, or the guitar player, or the officiant, or you and your fiancé for that matter while you are exchanging vows. Ahhh, you're getting it!

Now, I am not saying it is impossible to plan a beach wedding - not at all. I happen to think oceanside weddings are absolutely romantic and I love to plan them. What I want you take from this is that it is never as simple as it seems. There is a lot of preparation that goes into orchestrating any wedding; when you take it outside, you need to be even more prepared. In order to be properly prepared, it takes knowledge and experience.

What I've touched upon above are like four what if scenarios. Literally, it is simply what came off the top of my head. But they are four of many, many, many reasons why you need to hire a professional -ehem, Lauren Daversa Events- to bring your fantasy oceanside wedding to reality. If you can't enlist the help of a professional and you are planning a beach wedding, know this:

Be prepared. Be overly prepared.
There is absolutely no way of knowing twelve or fourteen months out what the weather will be like on your wedding day. Truth be told, the weather can change by the hour, which is why you need to be overly prepared!
Always, always, always have a back up location, preferably indoors. If your budget permits, and you are allowed, get a tent. Seriously, go for it!

Did you know that the reason why the bride kisses the groom at the altar is not just for a photo opp for a master photographer like New York's Brian Dorsey to capture! That's right. There happens to be a cornucopia overflowing with wedding traditions from the world's history's past. These traditions have trickled their way down through time into today's weddings, and the first kiss is one of them. In Roman times, a kiss was seen as a legal bond that sealed a contract! Sealed with a kiss starts to make sense now, doesn't it!

While 'the first kiss' is not required, I find it to be a beautiful symbol of the precise moment in time when the bride and groom have forever bound their souls together as one. Romance at its finest!

Event Inspiration : Ruffles

As long as your eyes are open, you have probably noticed the influx of ruffles on the wedding circuit. Let me point out, I am not a ruffle girl. I didn't play with dolls growing up, or have dreams of a Victorian existence in our modern world. Not that there is anything wrong with either of those childhood scenarios, I'm simply offering you a glimpse, a tiny Malkovich-style portal into who I am and who I am most certainly not.

Tying in this Starbucks-induced rant: ruffles. They are popping up all over the place beyond wedding dresses and shoes and you know what, this non doll playing / anti-Victorian lover likes it! Yeah, I like it a lot. My three favorite places to see ruffles: table linen, chair linen and cakes.

Scarlett Lillian, a phenomenal photographer based out of Jacksonville who is of course available for travel worldwide, recently shot a wedding at the to-die-for gorgeous Vizcaya Museum in Miami where she showcased some fabulous ruffled table linens courtesy of Wild Flower Linens.

If you can stand it, I am also crushing on Chameleon Chair. Though all of their products are great, I am loving the ruffle collection. Hello! Seriously, hell-o!!!

The first look is when the bride and groom see each other prior to the ceremony, versus at the ceremony, the moment the bride walks down the aisle. Here is the big debate, which is better?

Besides being a Gemini, I have an argument for both sides. Before the ceremony is great because you have pictures of the moments leading up to seeing each other, pictures of the first sight of one another, and then the portraits that you pose for together. These most intimate moments are all captured when no one else is present. It is just the two of you, and of course your fabulous photographer. Can I type romantic? Yup, I just did. Put aside the romance for a second and think about the practical aspect to having your most special pictures taken without all of your family, bridal party and maybe even all of your guests around. That's a large audience, and a lot of pressure to handle. Stage fright is not just for Broadway and Hollywood.

Okay, so besides documenting the romantical moments and combating stage fright, there is a time factor involved. There is only an hour for cocktails, and if your reception is not in the same location as the ceremony...well, I think you can understand where this is going. The first look will not only produce amazing pictures but it will save you time. Think about it, by the time the ceremony is over, you could have completed most of - if not all of - the wedding portraits and this means that you will not be in a mad rush to fit in a million shots in short time frame.

Okay, here is the other side. If you are more of a traditional bride and prefer to have the I'm about to be married glow and twinkle in your eyes at the first sight of your future husband standing oh-so handsomely at the end of the aisle, the first look is probably not for you. Or, if you are the bride who wants to show everyone, including your soon-to-be, how incredibly stunning you are as you enter the ceremony, then the first look is probably not for you either.

There are a lot of reasons why either situation is great but either way, don't get hung up on the tradition of "oh, I am not supposed to see the groom before" because it's a tra-di-tion not a rule. In the Jewish faith, the bride must see the groom prior to the wedding to sign the ketubah. See, nothing is written in stone here except that it is your wedding, and can and should be done the way you and your fiancé want it!

TOTW : Inviting Coworkers

The guest list for any event is typically always an issue, usually because the high number of people on it. Distant relatives that have not been seen in years, 2nd, 3rd, 4th cousins, kids, college friends bringing their newest flame, social friends who aren't really friends, and of course... the coworkers.

Like it or not, coworkers are like a second family. After all, many people spend at least forty hours each week at work. Does this mean that your entire office and your fiancés entire office and of course their spouses all need to be invited to the big day? No. Absolutely not. Only invite the colleagues you are closest with.

So ask yourself, "Do I socialize with this person outside of the office?" If the answer is yes, put them on the list. If the answer is no, there is no need to go any further. That's actually a lie, it does need to go a little further. If you answered no to the question above, be sure to avoid discussing in great detail the plans for the wedding with those colleagues. I consider that type of behavior to be schoolyard rude - because only kids would talk extensively about an event to someone who is not going to be included.

Signature Drink Club : French Lavender Lemonade

There is no mistaking it, summer is here. The sun is beaming, the days are long and weekends are filled with BBQ-s and pool parties. So how can you make your party stand out? Well read on, my friend because this month's entry in the signature drink club is your answer.

Cool off and refresh with a glass of French Lavender Lemonade, a fabulous summer drink courtesy of the San Ysidro Ranch by way of Design*Sponge. The lavender soothes and refreshes on a hot day, while the vodka, well we all know what that stuff does! Enjoy...

Ingredients

1.5oz Vodka
1.5oz Lillet Blanc
1oz Lavender Syrup (recipe below)
1oz Lemon Juice
2oz Chilled Soda Water
French Lavender Flower for Garnish

Directions

Mix first four ingredients with spoon, pour over ice, add chilled soda water and garnish with lavender flower (or lemon wedges if you can’t find fresh organic lavender).

Lavender Syrup

Add equal parts sugar and water to a medium saucepan and bring to boil.
Add fresh organic French lavender to taste (or 1/2 cup dried food grade lavender for every 4 cups water/4 cups sugar) and boil for one minute over medium/high heat.
Remove from heat and let steep for an hour.

I can't wait to work with a bride who envisions succulents on her special day, and maybe she will have a cake that is as awesome as this! Enjoy...

Real Weddings : Daryl + John : Destination Wedding In Key Largo

Daryl + John. Just typing that stirs the pot for me, and in a really good way. (Prepare yourselves for a run on sentence)...I first met with this couple at a Starbucks, on a very rainy, Saturday in May, and from the minute I sat down, I knew their wedding was going to be beautifully-amazing in a unique way. It couldn't make me any happier to report - almost a year later - that their wedding was everything they wanted and more.

Daryl + John and I spent almost one year working together to create their special day. During my initial consultation, and throughout the planning period, I listen. Constantly and diligently, I listen. I listen to everything clients say. I read and re-read everything clients email or text. And this is key to being successful in anything. The other key is being able to use the knowledge you've attained through listening but that is a whole other post :-)

So I probably spoke with Daryl about once every 1-2 two weeks about all of her and John's dreams for their wedding. There were a lot of parts to their dreams, and Lauren Daversa Events of course found a way to tastefully incorporate every single design element they wanted into their wedding, short of a life size cutout of Barak Obama and Keith Olbermann. Daryl, we'll just have to save that for another time!

Seriously, from a vintage typewriter to cafe lights, sea glass to burlap, the exact shades of the blues found in the ocean...and this is literally five of ten, twenty, maybe thirty special details that were carefully (very carefully) perfected all to create the "best wedding of 2010". We're busy-busy-busy over here at Lauren Daversa Events. Working on the official launch of our corporate division, organizing a few style shoots, planning a huge upcoming industry event, redecorating the home-office, working on setting up shop in my hometown (that's NYC for those of you who don't know) and of course working with my fabulous couples to plan their beautiful weddings! Currently, I've been listening to a lot of jazz, big band, standards and swing music, which I have always been a huge, HUGE fan of. I enjoy everything from the Rat Pack to Michael Buble and all that's in between. This definitely explains why I am currently obsessed with Wouter Hamel. This pop singing, Dutch jazz vocalist is awesome! Check out In Between. Yeah, a-ford-able...I think so. A perfect way to put a small detail to your wedding without breaking the bank.

Corporate Event Tip : Location Donation

In today's market, the average corporate event is working with a limited budget. Minimize the cost by thinking outside the box and getting the hook up on a location donation. Sound difficult? It doesn't have to be. Simply ask your clients to scroll through their Rolodex (yup, I brought back the Rolodex!) and find out if any of their colleagues happen to work in a building with an available snazzy-conference room. Or, maybe you are a seasoned planner and able to use your personal contacts for a location donation.

Don't even make excuses, there have to be a few fantastic buildings in your neighborhood that have their own personal room with a view, roof top lounge, garden courtyard, the CEO's custom landscaped terrace, something unique to host a fabulous event. One spot in my neck of the woods is Phillips Point, home to many businesses with intracoastal views and oh yeah, a view of Palm Beach.

I can't write it enough: think outside of the the box and speak up. In the end, you'll never know unless you ask. And saving the cost of a venue rental is a huge step in the right direction when you've budget is low, not to mention the best way to impress your clients.

Recently I made empanadas for the first time, and I have to say that they were absolutely delicious and pictures will be posted soon. Beyond the taste, the presentation of the bakes half moon rocked so much that I impressed even myself! So, a few months ago when Real Simple posted this yummy recipe for spiced beef empanadas with lime sour cream, I knew it was something I needed to share. Does the the name itself not sound insanely good? Say it with me, spiced beef empanada....okay, yum!...with lime sour cream...ah, yes please!!! And the great thing about these little pockets of goodness is that they will make the perfect hors d'oeuvre for a for special event. They can be made large or bite size and filled with whatever ingredients you like . And just like that...BOOM... you've brought the WOW factor to your event! Enjoy...

Last October I posted a great tip for the bride: do not forget the dress hanger. Well, here is a little follow up for out DIY brides, mod podge hangers. What a fantastic idea from Make It and Love It, and one that can be customized for every wedding! Now there is no excuse, ladies!!!!

Not getting married? Well, this would make a great hostess gift, housewarming gift, baby shower gift, a just because you're awesome gift! All it requires is some fabric, a hanger and of course, Mod Podge!

The Incredible, Edible Sugar Diamond

Diamonds are forever, unless they are edible and placed on a piece of cake. In that case, it's anybody's guess how long they'll last. That's right, the next way to bedazzle a cake is by snazzing it up with cake jewels. Completely edible little bites of diamonds. I love it!

Think it's too much for your wedding cake...well, there are a ton of ways to utilize these sugar monsters: on top of bridal shower cupcakes, bachelorette cupcakes, use as decoration on the table for a dinner party -Sex and the City is coming up! Visit, Kitchen Krafts to pick yours up. They are not cheapest decor pieces on the market but they are certainly not as expensive as these bad boys!

TOTW : It's Flower Time

Taking on the task of coordinating your own wedding will be, well quite frankly, it will be at times overwhelming. Thorough planning is a great way to alleviate this feeling. Seriously, plan everything. That's my motto.

When you get to the part where you are coordinating the event day details with all of the selected vendors, make sure that you have your personal flowers arrive at least an hour before the photographer and videographer. Especially if your packages have a time limit on them.

You don't want to have your photog and videog arrive, and not be able to snap pictures of the flowers. First, you will miss out on capturing the beautiful arrangements you've purchased. And lets be honest here. How many times in your life will you be toting around a custom made bouquet AND be dressed to the nine AND have bangin' hair AND have fresh make up AND be surrounded by all of the people who are closest to you in your life AND have a professional photographer and videographer on hand to document it all? Yeah, not that often right!

But beyond this, without bouquets...what will all of you be doing with your hands? Can you say awkward. Most wedding gowns and bridesmaids dresses don't come with pockets. I sure don't want to be responsible for creatively posing, oh let's say nine bridesmaids plus a jittery bride when the don't have their bouquets to hold on to.

Lastly, time is of the essence on your wedding day. Most venues and vendors are flexible but only to a certain point. If you go over the contracted hours, you might end up paying overtime. So plan wisely!

West Palm Beach Wedding Planner : 102

A few months back I posted on why you should hire a wedding planner. This is such a great question, and one that I get asked a lot. The answer is literally never ending, and here is the second reason why. Again, this list is not in any type of order :-)

2. FORGOTTEN DETAILS

Not all special events are about the details. A lot of corporate events are pretty cut and dry. A wedding is anything but. A wedding is all about the details, and it is the little details that make each wedding unique. Chances are that you will not find yourself saying on your wedding day, "Oh my gosh, we forgot to hire a caterer," or, "sh$t, we never picked out a venue for the wedding!" These are not details that you forget to cover. Now you may not pick the right caterer or venue but that's another post :-)

What typically happens is something like you forget to turn the volume off on the house phone when the ceremony is on the patio, and just as your about to be pronounced man and wife the phone rings, or, you forget to take off your watch like the bride in the picture posted above. I could list a gazillion things that are forgotten on the wedding day. Some important, some no-so. Either way, a wedding planner will think of these details for you and tend to them allowing the bride and groom and both families to enjoy the day.

And any bride out there who is intentionally planning on wearing her watch on the big day...take it off! Love knows no time on your wedding :-)

I can hardly believe it's been since November since the last Wedding Gowns Under $250 post. What can I say? Time flies when you're planning fun!

This morning, and by morning I mean 1 AM, I was checking in on the Internet. While I was busy getting lost on talented vendor's blogs like Wild Flower Linens, I some how ended up on my good-old friend Nordstrom's website. Oh how I love Nordstrom. There once was a time when I use to visit there on my way home from work, almost every day. Yes, I had a bit of a shopping problem but honestly, what girl doesn't? I digress...so, I found my way to Nordstrom and of course found another gorgeous dress for the Wedding Gowns Under $250 series.

The dress pictured above is a form fitting Adrianna Papell evening shutter pleat bateau neck gown. Wow, say that five times fast; or even once! The shutter pleats place this dress into the chic category. One might even describe this as architecturally interesting, if they themselves are trying to be interesting. I would say, strikingly-dramatic. Anyway, put it however you want to, this floor-length gown will make a great wedding dress if you're not in a place to part with a few grand or more. This number will set you back $198 bucks, proving yet again that beautiful can be affordable.

Calling all platinum clients. Looking for that wow to razzle-dazzle your guests at that oh so important soirée you're planning -Side Note - I'm sure we're working on this event together ;-)- Well, let me suggest using LumiGram's luminous fiber optics tablecloth.

TOTW : DIY Gladiola Floral Arrangement

Hello. I am an event planner and I have at least two sides to my brain...(since I'm a Gemini, I actually have a lot of different sides, but that's for another time and another place!) Getting back on track to the two sides of my brain: the rational side and the escapist side.

The escapist side is the creative side where I come up with my inspiration for events. The rational side is how I try to figure out how to execute it. And since all of my clients are not working with the same budget, I need to determine exactly what the different stroke is going to be for each folk...so to type.

Here is a neat tip for brides who are on a tighter floral budget: gladiolas. Yup, they are great options when your floral budget is on a diet. First, when buying in bulk, they are priced very well. Second, they come in a variety of colors, which means they will fit into a whole lot of different color schemes. Third, they have their own flair. Yeah, that's right. I just brought back flair! They are long, and elegant, and bright and beautiful. Hmmm, sort of sounds like The Girl From Ipenama.

Check out this tutorial from Flower Arrangement Advisor. The flowers used are...gladiolas, of course. Check out just how long they are, the florist has to trim them to size. The height is important because is gives the arrangement that "wow" factor.

Now, the style of the arrangement may not be exactly what you are looking for...so tweak it to make it work for you. Pick up unique vases, add some ribbon, crystals, rocks, moss. Whatever ties it in to your event and makes it pop. But remember, arranging your own flowers is a lot of work. And not just the effort. It takes creative skill, which is not something that comes with directions. Hey, there is a reason why a good florist costs money. If DIY flower arranging is not for you, talk to a florist about incorporating gladiolas into your flowers!

Just a few months ago, I received a call from Jon inquiring about planning a destination-esque wedding. First off, I absolutely love it when grooms are involved in planning their wedding!!! Second, I use the term "destination-esque " because they do live in Florida, just not in the immediate area. Anyways, I met with Jon and Libby and we all hit it off right away. They are relaxed and cool and will be married this November. Yes, I did type November of 2010! No worries, Lauren Daversa Events has had less time to plan an event!
